Hiker, Traveler, Outdoor Lover, Nature Appreciator

[ About ]

Benoit “Ben” Havard, founder of LoursBlanc Sila, has dedicated over 30 years to exploring and connecting with the North and its people. From guiding kayaking and hiking expeditions in Antarctica to trekking through the Arctic, Ben has introduced countless guests to the raw beauty of nature. His journey has taken him across Russia, Siberia, and the Canadian Arctic, immersing himself in the cultures and communities that thrive in some of the world’s most extreme environments.

Twenty years ago, Ben embarked on a transformative three-year bike tour from Paris to Montreal with his loyal dog, Misha. This adventure deepened his admiration for the resilience of Northern peoples and their way of life. More recently, Ben’s passion for snow sailing has become a unique avenue for cultural connection. He has introduced Inuit youth to the sport, seeing it as a bridge to their heritage and the land they call home.

Now based in Iqaluit with his wife, daughter, two sons, and their dog, Ben feels privileged to continue his journey of discovery and sharing. LoursBlanc Sila reflects his commitment to fostering a deeper connection to the majestic North and the remarkable people who live there.

[ HISTORY ]

Traveling is a pastime for some people, a break from regular life. For me, it is my regular life. As your mentor, I’ll help you disconnect from your everyday world, so you can immerse yourself in nature and reconnect with yourself.

Ben's life has been defined by a deep love for adventure and a relentless pursuit of discovery. Whether it’s navigating the icy waters of Antarctica, hiking through remote Arctic landscapes, or embarking on solo expeditions, every journey has been an opportunity to push boundaries and gain a profound understanding of the natural world.

From the quiet moments spent under the northern lights to the challenges faced on rugged terrains, Ben’s adventures have shaped him into the passionate guide and mentor he is today. His experiences fuel his work with LoursBlanc Sila, where he continues to inspire others to embrace the wonders of the wild and the lessons it has to offer.

Behind every great adventure is a community of passionate people. This section shines a light on the friends, collaborators, and local experts who support, inspire, and contribute to our work—whether on the trails, with the youth, or behind the scenes.

  • Originally from Resolute Bay, Kevin grew up following his parents year-round on hunting and fishing trips. He lived in Resolute in the 1980s, then moved to Pond Inlet in 1989, where he spent ten years exploring the region’s stunning mountainous terrain—rich in wildlife and cultural connection.

Kevin has worked with several government agencies and is currently employed by the Government of Nunavut. He is the proud father of three beautiful children and loves spending time on the land, especially boating during the spring and summer.

In addition to his deep knowledge of the land, Kevin brings invaluable technical and cultural support to the programs. His presence helps bridge traditional knowledge with outdoor learning experiences in a way that is both grounded and meaningful.

  • Shannon is a movement enthusiast and a key figure in Iqaluit’s active community. A physical activity specialist, he has been working with youth in Nunavut for over ten years, particularly in the Trois-Soleils and Joamie schools, where he uses sport as a tool to support students facing challenges.

As co-founder of the Iqaluit cross-country ski club alongside Benoit, Shannon has played a major role in developing Nordic sports for local youth. Thanks to their dedication, several young athletes recently represented Nunavut at the Arctic Winter Games — a first in over 20 years. His thoughtful, community-based approach makes him an essential and inspiring collaborator.

  • Jinny plays a key role in supporting youth programming alongside Benoit, especially during camps and outdoor activities. With her positive energy and strong connection to the land, she helps create meaningful, playful, and inclusive experiences for every young participant.
